(National)

The One In Five Foundation For Kids, national student advocacy & violence prevention charity group, formed after the Uvalde, Texas mass shooting at Robb Elementary School; released early Thursday morning it's 2024, "Top 10" most dangerous schools in the nation. Each school community named will receive specialized, volunteer safety patrols. Indiana HS named "Safest School In America."

Following 6 months of planning & research involving university students, parents, community leaders, law enforcement officials, city leaders & school officials from across the nation - The One In Five Foundation For Kids, operating under, The Uvalde Foundation For Kids; a national nonprofit, formed in response to the May 2022 Uvalde, Texas school shooting - announced in a special release that it is expanding its STOPNOW volunteer school patrol teams initiative this week to the 10 campus communities, recently named by the foundation, as the "Top 10" most dangerous schools in the nation. Southwestern High School in Shelbyville, Indiana, for the 2nd consecutive year, has been named as the "Safest School In America 2024," by the foundation.

Foundation officials have named the following schools to the list, with each school slated to immediately begin receiving the specialized school community safety patrols. Officials noted that schools named were selected based on a unique criteria, which not only included specific incidents of school/student violence, but also included a review of each schools preparedness level (mental health care, safety training, bullying & behavioral intervention programming, technical safety measures, incident reporting & communication protocols, etc.) so as to properly prevent and as needed, defuse potential situations which might endanger students. Each schools overall "student culture" was also included:

1: Harper High School (Chicago, IL)

2: Northwestern Middle School (Jacksonville, FL)

3: George Washington Carver Elementary School (Jacksonville, FL)

4: University of Texas (Austin, TX)

5: St. John’s Military School (Salina, KS)

6: Harvard University (Cambridge, MA)

7: Delaware High School (DE)

8: Fort Pierce Westwood High School (Ft. Pierce, FL)

9: East Lee Middle School (Sanford, NC)

10: John Bowne High School (NY)

Foundation STOPNOW Patrols, modeled after the "Guardian Angels," anti crime unit in NYC in the 1980's, typically patrol school perimeters to minimize & prevent safety incidents from reaching school campuses; while also providing extra encouragement and support for students and specific school neighborhoods. Uniformed patrols are comprised from specially trained team members from within each designated community. Patrols do not enter school campuses or district properties without authorization or as part of the foundations on campus patrol partnership. The foundation noted in the release, it is also currently recruiting community members for patrols.

Patrol team members are required to undergo a background check and clearance, are trained in situational awareness, crisis intervention, self defense and are unarmed. They are trained to recognize, report and intervene as necessary and are currently ongoing at several historically troubled school neighborhoods and communities nationwide affected by violence or threat of violence. Patrol teams typically patrol designated school perimeters and immediate neighborhoods.

Most recently patrol teams have expanded to include general & emergency community support safety & emergency response services, such as in South Carolina after the entire police force resigned from the city and the current mayor was killed:

Philadelphia to receive special safety patrols:

New Haven Schools To Receive Guardian Angel Patrols:

Gang Violence at Canutillo HS Prompts Safety Patrols:
